KHARKOV

From the window of this ruined house you can see a large square. On the bottom right is my favorite fabric store. I lived in this town for ten years. Kharkov is often called the capital of students and if I'm not mistaken, there are about twenty universities here. Large, wide avenues with Soviet buildings intersect with narrow, quiet pre-revolutionary streets.I studied in Kharkov, then I worked. My first salary was enough to buy food, rent an apartment, and buy secondhand clothes. When you are young, you do not notice difficulties, because it seems the most interesting and beautiful things are yet to come. You live and breathe with every full breath. I have fallen in love, lost my head, been disappointed, confused, plunged in and out of the whirlpool of passion. Tell me, who among you has not been young?

Now close your eyes for a few seconds. Imagine a large apartment building. New Year's Eve. The fun. The festivities. The noise. Laughter. Champagne. Ukrainians have a custom; when the clock strikes 12, one must make a wish.  Do you think anyone made a wish that their house would be shelled by rockets? That their loved ones would be killed or crippled?



Come on, walk with me down Central Street, we will stop at my favorite spot on the corner and order coffee and pastries.



Shit! It’s gone, my favorite restaurant is no more. Now there is nothing.



Not so long ago, children played here…a kindergarten, colorful toys...It is a miracle the children survived; luckily they weren’t indoors when the shell hit the building.

How many children were left orphaned, disabled in those seven months? How many parents were left without their babies?
Dreams that will never come true.

I hate writing sad articles and posting scary pictures.
On the morning of February 24, the world changed.  The world will never be the same. Believe it or not, this war is still near.
